Closing Argument, a Facebook blog, on Monday shared a post with photographs it claimed are voter rolls published by the National Elections Commission (NEC) ahead of the Nimba County By-Election. The blog claimed that it has “identified significant discrepancies in the integrity of voting centers across the region.”
We have checked all the photos shared by the block and found them to be unrelated to the April 22, 2025, senatorial by-election.
Here are several clues to determine that the post is misleading:
- The photos are not recent — check the tapes stitching the photos on the wall.
- The voter rolls have no NEC logo at the top of each of the paper.
- The post claims that photos are not attached to the names of voters. This is misleading — NEC attach photographs of voters on the list posted on the wall of polling places before the election.
- One of the photos shared in the post has an indication of “polling place” with specific reference to “Zone#1” and “Zone #2” as a means of identifying voting places. NEC does not use “Zone” but rather the nomenclature “Precincts” and “Polling place” during election.
- Blaygapa, which is on the images published by the Facebook blog, is a community in Ganta City which is in Electoral District #1 but it’s not included on the list of 18 precincts in that electoral district.
Conclusion
Based on a critical analysis of the photos shared with the post, we conclude that the Closing Argument’s claim that it has “identified significant discrepancies in the integrity of voting centers across the region” is misleading. There is no evidence to show that discrepancies have been identified. The photos shared with the post are unrelated to the Nimba County Senatorial By-election.
