The Claim
The exact claim states: “The Liberia Electricity Corporation is giving out 75 free units to all customers to celebrate the 2024 Liberia Independence Day.”
Rating Justification
To authenticate this claim, we first checked the official Facebook page of the Liberia Electricity Corporation (LEC) and saw a scam alert. In the alert, the LEC termed the link and the information a fake scam that “at no point has the management of LEC made such an offer.”
We also analyzed the website using an online tool, and its trust score 50%, stating that more investigation is necessary. This means the link cannot be trusted.
Conclusion
Based on these facts, we conclude that the viral link claiming that the Liberia Electricity Corporation is offering free 75 kWh/units to all its customers to celebrate Liberia’s Independence Day is fake. A post by LEC on its official Facebook page classifies the message in the viral link as a scam and very fake.
