Misleading: Photos of House and SUV Shared on Facebook Do Not Belong to Mo Ali

In Summary:

  • Facebook accounts have posted images of a house and a vehicle claiming that they are properties of Mo Ali, Managing Director of the Liberia Water and Sewerage Corporation
  • We have fact-checked the images by conducting reverse image searches
  • We found that these photos were taken from Facebook accounts in Ghana and Zimbabwe.

November 25, a Facebook account belonging to Amb. James S. Mulbah posted an image of a two-story building claiming that it is the property of Mohammed Ali, the Managing Director of the Liberia Water and Sewerage Corporation (LWSC). Also, a Facebook blog has claimed that Mr. Ali has purchased an expensive 2025 Land Cruise vehicle for his personal use.

Mohammed Ali, popularly known as Mo Ali, is the current managing Director of the LWSC.

In the post about the building, the poster promised to provide details of the story on the building he claimed is under construction in Caldwell.

Claim #1

He shared the photos with the caption: “Wow imagine Mo Ali mansion in Cowell, the full story will be out tomorrow this is sad.”

Rating Justification

To fact-check this claim, we conducted a reverse image search of the photo. The results show that the photo was shared on Facebook days before it was posted by James.

The search result shows that the image was posted to Facebook on November 23 by Kingsley Yaw Amoako Nyampong.

The photo of the building was first shared on Facebook on November 23 by a Ghanaian man

The photo of same building was shared by Mulbah, claiming that it belong s to Mo Ali

Kingsley posted that it was one of his creative projects for a client in the Jkwaa Central Region in Ghana.

Based on this, we conclude that the photo making rounds on Facebook claiming that it is a building in Caldwell belonging to Mo Ali is misleading. The photo is a building in the Central Region of Ghana.

Claim #2

“Liberia Water and Sewer Director Mo Ali purchased an expensive 2025 Land Cruise vehicle for his personal use.”

Rating Justification

In another claim, an online TV named State TV posted images of a vehicle claiming that it is a 2025 Toyota Land Cruiser purchased by Mo Ali for his personal use.

A reverse image search of the photos revealed a November 18 Facebook post by Zimbest Automart a car dealership in Zimbabwe.

Zimbest Automart posted the images of the SUV with details including contact information for interested buyers, putting the cost of the vehicle at US$210, 000.

In the first image, the State TV claim that Mr. Ali had purchased the Toyota SUV but a reverse image search of the photos shows that it was previously published by a car dealership in Zambia

Conclusion

Based on the result of the reverse image search, we conclude that photos of the SUV posted by State TV claiming that was purchased Mol Ali is misleading.

The vehicle was posted by Zimbest Automart, a car dealership in Zimbabwe on November 18.

Also, the photo making rounds on Facebook claiming that it is a building in Caldwell belonging to Mo Ali is misleading. The photo is a building in the Central Region of Ghana.
