On April 2, Nimba County District #1 Representative Samuel Brown claimed that he lobbied for a US$10,000 allocation in the 2025 national budget for the J.W. Pearson High School in Ganta, Nimba County.
J.W. Pearson High School is one of the biggest and oldest public schools in the district. Rep. Brown made the statement while criticizing journalists in Nimba for what he described as biased reporting, highlighting challenges in the district without acknowledging his developmental efforts.
The Claim
Rep. Brown’s exact statement: “Go in the budget and see the budget, whether Sam Brown never made impact in the budget… We allocated 10,000 dollars to Pearson… people saw that and jumped over it.”
Rating Justification
To verify if Rep. Brown lobbied for a US$10,000 allocation in the 2025 national budget for the J.W. Pearson High School in Gompa, Nimba County, we reviewed the approved 2025 budget published by the Ministry of Finance and Development Planning, which he referenced.
Our review found no mention of allocation for the J.W. Pearson High School in the budget, nor any allocation of US$10,000 specifically allocated for the institution.
However, we have contacted the Ministry of Finance and Development Planning to share with us any information about allocation to the school in the budget. Once we received response from them, we will update this report.
Conclusion
Based on a detailed review of the budget, we conclude that the claim made by Rep. Samuel Brown that he lobbied for and secured a US$10,000 allocation for J.W. Pearson High School in the 2025 national budget is misleading. The budget he cited does not reflect any such allocation.
