In Summary:
  • Following the imprisonment of Justin Oldpa Yeazeahn, popularly known as Prophet Key, Montserrado County District #10 Representative Yekeh Kolubah claimed that the case filed by former Cultural Ambassador Juli Endee against Prophet Key was dismissed by the Supreme Court
  • We have verified this claim by reviewing media reports and court-related publications on the matter
  • Our findings show the prosecution of the case was discontinued by prosecutors representing Madam Endee at the Monrovia City Court and not the Supreme Court as claimed by Representative Kolubah

On February 13, Montserrado County District #10 Representative claimed that the Supreme Court of Liberia dismissed the case filed by former Cultural Ambassador Juli Endee against Prophet Key, arguing that the matter was civil in nature.

Representative Kolubah made the claim during an appearance on Spoon FM, referring to the lawsuit in which Juli Endee reportedly demanded US$5 million in damages against Prophet Key for criminal coercion, menacing, and disorderly conduct.

According to Kolubah, the Supreme Court’s decision to sentence Prophet Key to six months’ imprisonment amounted to an abuse of power because, in his view, the case was purely civil.

The Claim

“When Juli Endee took her case there, they say it was a civil matter, right? So, is (Chief Justice) Gbessay different from Juli Endee? No. That’s abuse of power, the only person that benefited from what happened today to Prophet Key was Justice Gbessay, not the Liberian people, because if they knew that what Prophet Key was doing was wrong, when Juli Endee took her case there, they shouldn’t have thrown her case outside, but they threw her case outside.”

Rating Justification

To verify this claim, we reviewed media reports and court-related publications on the matter.

A report published by FrontPage Africa on February 21, 2024, revealed that the government prosecutors acting on behalf of Juli Endee withdrew all charges against Prophet Key at the Monrovia City Court.

Other publications by The New Dawn, In Profile Daily, and Smart News Liberia also confirmed that the charges against Prophet Key were dropped by the Monrovia City Court, and not by the Supreme Court, as claimed by Representative Kolubah.

Conclusion

Based on the evidence reviewed, Representative Kolubah’s claim that the Supreme Court dismissed Juli Endee’s case against Prophet Key because it was a civil matter is incorrect.

The available media reports indicate that the case was withdrawn and dropped at the Monrovia City Court level by government prosecutors representing Madam Endee and not by the Supreme Court.
