Kakata, Margibi County – Stakeholders in Margibi County have committed to a peaceful and violence free electoral process in the country amid repeated calls for a smooth democratic transition following the October 10 elections.
Speaking at the launch of the civic voter education campaign in Kakata City, they promised to play a vital role as local leaders to ensure the electoral process is successfully conducted in Margibi County.
Darius Weamie, the county information officer, warned civic voter educators to avoid from campaigning for any politician and focus on educating electorates about the voting process.
Weamie, who spoke on behalf of the county superintendent, also urged political campaigners to refrain from personal attacks against their respective opponents and focus on the real issues that concern the voters.
Also speaking during the program, the county gender coordinator, Daniette Asilton, said women participation is vital to the electoral process because they were not included in the democratic process of the country until the 1950’s.
She said women’s participation would further ensure the sustainability of the country’s peace.
“Your participation in this political process will tell the world after many years how far the women of Liberia have come, where they hope to go and how they will reach there,” Madam Asilton told an audience of many women.
She admonished Margibians (People of Margibi County), who are actively involved in the campaigning especially youth, to “jealously protect the peace the country now enjoys,” and said they must denounce any form of electoral violence.
Said Asilton: “As you are going out campaigning, please see Liberia as your child you have and imagine that child is about to give up and as a mother what would you?”
Fomba Swaray, Margibi County election magistrate, Fomba Swaray, announced that 75 persons have been recruited including 30 civil voter educators and 45 gender mobilizers to embark on rigorous public awareness across the five electoral districts in the county.
