Bong County: ‘Increase Health workers Salary’
Since the outbreak of COVID-19 in Liberia, national government “has not done much” interms of providing training for healthcare workers to adequately respond to the disease, Development Education Network Liberia (DEN-L) Executive Director Johnson Kesseley has asserted.
In order to tackle the coronavirus, Mr. Kesseley says the government must now increase the salary of health workers and security personnal as well as pay them on time.
The DEN-L boss made the appeal on Wednesday May 27, in Gbarnga during a meeting with staff of the Bong County Health Team.
Lofa County: 43 Contacts Tracked
The county incident management system, IMS, says it has identified a total of 43 contacts – 12 in Voinjama and 31 in Foya. The county has two confirmed cases so far.
There are 34 high risk contacts: eight in Voinjama and 26 in Foya. Twenty of them have been moved to the Precautionary Observation Centers (POCs). Four are in the POC in Voinjama and16 persons in Foya, according to the county health team.
A total of seventy-nine contacts are being followed including one high risk case , which has shown symptoms of COVID-19 in Foya District.
Gbarpolu County: 10 Specimen Undergoing Test
The specimen of 10 contacts have been collected and sent to Monrovia for testing, according to county health officer, Dr. Musa Zuannah.
At the same time, Dr. Zuannah said the county health team will be graduating 10 persons, who have completed their 21 days quarantine.
At the Incident Management System meeting, partners were ureged to take the meeting “seriously” and attached numbers in their regular updates to the IMS to help the response team prepared accurate and data-based report from the county.
Grand Bassa County: Additional COVID-19 Support
ArcelorMittal Liberia has announced an increment in its support to the Ministry of Health after donating medical supplies to boost the national response against the pandemic.
This complements the steel company’s previouis support to the county in stopping the spread of COVID-19. ArcelorMittal had already provided US$100,000 in medical supplies to MOH in addition to the donation of hygiene and sanitation supplies to Grand Bassa County. The company has committed itself to repairing the county’s two ambulances, which will be used to respond to calls from community members.
Bomi County: Logistical Constraints
Awareness on COVID-19 by the county task force is continuing across the county but there are logistical challenges being reported. It includes lack of transportation and limited PPEs for health workers.
However, all four districts in the county have setup their respective task force to do awareness. Bomi County has not recorded any case of COVID-19 so far.
