Bomi County: Two Persons Recover From COVID-19
Two persons have been discharged from the COVID-19 treatment center in Tubmanburg after recovering. This brings to three the number of persons who have recovered from the virus in the county.
Dr. Forkpa Zayzay, head of the treatment center in the county, described the recovery as a significant gain made by the County Health Team [CHT].
“Today, we have made a significant gain in the fight against COVID-19 in Bomi County without major casualty and we are very grateful for that,” he said.
For his part, the county health officer, Dr. Augustus Quaiah reconfirmed the CHT’s commitment to preventing the spread of virus.
He called on people of the county to continue washing their hands, wearing nose and mouth mask, and practicing social distancing, adding, “Remember, no mask no service at the hospital.”
Bong County: Man Commits Suicide
A man, in his early 30s, has committed suicide in the Baptist Community of Gbarnga city after fallen sick for which he had been seeking treatment.
The lifeless body of Junior Kamara was discovered on Thursday July 9, at about 2pm hanging in his house with a piece of cloth tied to his neck.
Some eyewitnesses, who spoke in an interview with reporters at the weekend, said prior to his death, he was always heard complaining about his health condition.
Family sources said the deceased had fallen from a light pool couple of months ago in Monrovia, causing his legs to get broken.
Local herbalists applied various traditional medicines to heal him but to no avail, family sources said. He then became paralyzed.
The Crime Services Division (CSD) of the Liberia National Police Bong County Detachment has investigated circumstances leading to the death with a 15-man jury reporting that there was no foul played in his death. He has since been bury.
Grand Cape Mount County: Concerns Over Lack of COVID-19 Preventive Materials
The District Education officer of Garwul district, Gand Cape Mount County has outlined several challenges impeding the studies of 12 graders that he said should be addressed by the Government before the commencement of the West Africa regional exams in August.
Mr. Mambu Golafale said since the reopening of schools for 12 graders, his district is yet to benefit from hands washing materials, nose and mouth masks, as well as instructional materials.
At the same time, Jefferson Sherman, the vice principal for instructions at the Sinje High School, has also alarmed over the lack of anti-COVID-19 materials to ensure students are protected while in school.
“I heard about training for school instructors before the reopening of school on the preventative methods across the country, but I didn’t see them in Cape Mount,” Sherman said.
“So, am calling on Ministry of Education to provide hands washing materials before the commencement of the exams as we are expecting over 100 twelve graders on our campus.”
Student Roselyn J. Bawoh, who spoke for her fellow students, said the closure of schools due to the pandemic has taken them off track, adding that “it has not been easy to focus” – a situation that may likely affect their performance in the upcoming exams.
Sinoe County: Court Stops Youth Elections
Judge Geeplah Tiklo Konton of the Third Judicial Circuit Court in Greenville has halted the elections of the Sinoe Youth Association.
On July 10, the Court placed an injunction on the elections following a 10-count petition filed by a contesting party under the banner “TEAM VOTE” headed by Terry Panyonneh.
The petitioners alleged that they have no confidence in the commission to conduct the polls.
Patrick G.M.K Bolue, Secretary of the ad-hoc elections commission, confirmed receipt of the Court’s order and promised to appear before the Judge on July 21 as indicated in the order.
Meanwhile, Morris Suah Chairman for Press and Political affairs of TEAM CLARK – the other party contesting the elections – considers the action of their contender as “afraid of being defeated”, adding that “no matter how long it takes their defeat awaits them”.
The Sinoe Youth Association is a conglomeration of all youth groups in the county that comprises 54 registered youth groups.
The Association holds its general assembly every two years, when elections of its seven officers are held and youth groups seeking membership are admitted.
Delegates of its member organizations and partners on Friday started arriving in Greenville city for this year’s assembly but the process was halted by the court.
River Gee County: Helping Hand from Orange
Orange Liberia GSM Company has made a donation of food items to some vulnerable communities in River Gee County.
Charles, Orange Ambassador to the county, said the donation was the company’s way of identifying with the county during the pandemic.
“Thou we are a business institution operating throughout the Republic of Liberia, we have our own social responsibilities to the government and its people,” said Orange Liberia Ambassador.
He lauded the County Health Team for their response against the pandemic and urged people of the county to continue following the health protocols.
“The only way this virus can leave us soon, is when we are all respecting and observing the health protocols instituted by the government through MOH,” he said.
Receiving the items at the Fish Town City Superintendent Philip Q. Nyanuh thanked the company for its support and said the items will be distributed to “those who cannot afford”.
