Grand Kru County: Amid New Cases of Covid, Health Team Calls for Calm
Barclayville – The head of the County Incident Management System has cautioned residents of the county to remain calm and observe all the Covid-19 health guidelines as the health team works with citizens to support the fight against Covid-19.
“The fight against Covid-19 is only achievable if we all work collaboratively by reporting to health authorities any suspected cases and follow the health guidelines,” Dr. Woyee Wreh said during a COVID-19 coordination meeting in the Barclayville City Hall.
His comment came after the Maryland County health team had informed his office that two residents of Grand Kru County were tested positive for COVID-19 in Harper City. The two Grand Kru County residents had gone to seek medical care at the J.J. Dossen Hospital when they were tested positive.
Dr. Wreh said following the alert, the Grand Kru CHT set up a team comprising of epi-surveillance, Psychosocial Counselors, Risk Communication, and case management experts to further assess the situation.
He disclosed that 24 persons — 211 from the Tietto Mining Company and 3 from Golden Veroluem Liberia — were screened and tested using the Covid-19 Rapid Diagnostic Test (RDT). He disclosed that adding out of the 24, four persons (3 males and 1 female) were tested positive with COVID-19.
Dr. Wreh revealed that all the four confirmed cases are all asymptomatic but the patients are “doing well at the treatment center in Behwan”.
Grand Kru County has recorded 22 confirmed cases of COVID-19 since it first registered its first case on April 15, 2020. Fourteen health workers have tested positive for COVID-19 since the outbreak started in the county.
Sinoe County: Health Workers Get Training in How to Care of People with Neglected Tropical Disease
Greenville – The Neglected Tropical Diseases Department of the Sinoe County Health Team has completed a two-day training for health care providers within the three districts of the county.
Community health services supervisor, Districts’ Surveillance Officers, and Districts Health Officers from across the county participated in the training.
They were taught how to do mass drugs administration in the prevention of Onchocerciasis also known as River Blindness and Lymphatic Filariasis which is called Elephantiasis or big foot.
Joseph Jah, lead facilitator and Clinical Supervisor of the F.J Grant Hospital, said the training is purposely intended to help health care workers develop new skills and attitudes in managing and giving care for clients who will be affected with these disease.
Bong County: Lawmakers Give out Alms
Salala District – Representative Moima Briggs Mensah made a special visit to the Bong County’s COVID-19 treatment center at the Phebe Hospital in Suakoko District. The visit was made just before the July 26 celebrations.
The lawmaker donated 10 bags of 25kg rice, several pieces of nose masks, and 25 gallons of fuel, which she said was intended to buttress the efforts of the County Health Team in running the facility.
Rep. Mensah lauded the county health officer, Dr. Jonathan Flomo and his team for their “tireless efforts in fighting the coronavirus pandemic”.
“Dr. Flomo, you and your team are doing [an] amazing job here, and I prayed that God will always guide you while you continue to serve our people despite the challenges,” she said.
Taking delivery of the items, Dr. Flomo thanked the lawmaker and assured that the items will be used for the intended purpose.
Also, Senator Henrique Tokpa visited the C.B. Dunbar Hospital in Gbarnga and presented L$50,000.00 as a July 26 gift to the workers.
Sen. Tokpa later identified with several old folks in the Lelekpayea Community, give gifts the Rainbow Orphanage Home along the Lofa Road and the Christ Children Orphanage in Sugar Hill community.
Gbarpolu County: Miss Earth Holds Mask Up Campaign in Gbarma District
Gbarma — Ms. Odella Flomo, who was recently crowned as Ms. Earth, has paid a visit to Gbarpolu County in a bid to conduct awareness on the importance of wearing mask to prevent the spread of COVID-19.
“My project is trying to kick COVID-19 out of Liberia. That is why my project says ‘MISS EARTH LIBERIA Mask Up’.I want us all to mask up because if we work in Liberia as a team, we will kick COVID-19 out of Liberia. Thank you,” she told residents.
Several hundred masks and hand sanitizers were distributed as she promised to share over 60,000 masks nationwide. She is also encouraging people keep wearing masks because “it’s one of the best ways of reducing the spread of the coronavirus”.
Ms. Earth was accompanied by Miss Liberia, Wakie Dolo, and Mr. Tom Toweh, a native of Gbarma District.
In remarks, the general town chief of Gbarma, Gbelley Fallah, thanked Miss Earth Liberia for the visit and the gifts.
Grand Bassa County: Rep. Joe Donates Hand Washing Buckets, Nose Masks In Buchanan
Buchanan – Representative Matthew Joe of Buchanan District continued his legislative engagement as he distributes hand washing buckets and nose masks in various communities.
Last week, the lawmaker was seen in the principle streets of Buchanan distributing nose masks and providing hand buckets for major spots in the city.
“Part of our Legislative engagement is to help spread the preventive messages about COVID-19 and so we have begun distributing buckets and nose masks,” he said. “We have over 100 buckets to be distributed in Buchanan district and more than 2,000 nose masks for our people.”
Joe stressed that there are lots of activities within his Legislative engagement, adding that funds received from National Government for the engagement will be used for the right purposes.
Grand Gedeh County: Diaspora Liberian Renders Support
Zwedru – A native of Grand Gedeh based in the United States has identified with people living with disabilities and rural women of the county as the economic impact of the coronavirus pandemic deepens for residents of the county.
Mr. Christopher Quiah Nenneh donated 15 bags of 25kg rice and 200 pieces of locally-made nose masks to people living with disabilities and rural women. .
At the same time, he presented 10 bags of 25kg and 500 pieces of locally made nose mask to the County Rural Women.
It’s too difficult for individuals of the two separate groups to easily get meals for themselves and at the same time difficult to afford getting a locally-made nose mask, he said while presenting the items.
In separate remarks, Mr. Eric Sharr, president of people living with disabilities in the county, and Madam Jesedah Barzon, who is the president of Rural Women of Grand Gedeh County, thanked Mr. Nenneh for his gesture and called on him do more.
