Corrections

July 2024

On July 13, 2024, we updated this fact check report after receiving additional evidence about the claim. The additional evidence changed the verdict from “unproven” to “Correct”. The claim was made based on the 2019-2020 demographic and health survey report published by the Liberia Institute of Statistics and Geo-Information Services (LISGIS) in April 2021.

August 2023

On August 16, 2023, we updated this report with additional information following response to our inquiry by a US Court about a plead of guilty by a Liberian accused of wire fraud scheme by creating illegal licensing and employment shortcuts for aspiring nurses.

The update to the story did not change the verdict but provided additional information to support the evidence. The claim was that the subject “pleaded guilty”; however, the evidence shows that he requested a hearing for a plead of guilty.

On August 21, 2023, we updated this report after obtaining response from the head of the Liberia Electricity Corporation following our publication of a fact check report.

The update to the report did not change the verdict but provided additional information to back the evidence.

October 2023

On October 26, 2023, this report was corrected following another careful review of the claim made by the the former Deputy Minister of Information about the construction of roads in Southeastern Liberia by the government. The correction was based on an observation by a reader who requested that we check the names of towns that were mentioned in the report. He had previously made errors with the names in the previous report.

The correction did not change the verdict but corrected the names of towns mentioned in the claim.
