Buchanan, Grand Bassa County – The representative-elect of Electoral District Four, Grand Bassa County has donated 40 desktop computers to computer school to be open in the district.
The National Elections Commission recently declared Vincent Willie as the winner of district representative election after defeating two-term incumbent Jeh Byron Brown at the 10th October poll.
Speaking on a community radio in Grand Bassa County on October 31, Willie assured he would serve as the “face of the young people in a positive direction”.
The youthful incoming lawmaker said initiating a computer literacy program is one of his major concerns for the district. He said the program will serve many high school graduates residing in the district.
“These computers will enable more young people to learn something on their own and be empowered,” Willie said. “This is also a part of the youth empowerment I promised the people of the district during my campaign.
Youth in the district say the arrival of the computers is an exciting progress for young people, and it raises their optimism about the newly elected lawmaker.
Adam Jimmy is a youth of the district who graduated from the only public high school in the district three years ago. He says financial difficulties have held him back from furthering his education. And now, he’s upbeat by the promise made good by the lawmaker-elect.
“At least I can now be amongst the first group of young people that will benefit from the computer training that is coming soon,” Jimmy said. “This computer school will really empower we the young people of this district.”
Philimina Gardee, a female youth, said young people in the area have longed for computer literacy training.
She praised the youthful Willie for being farsighted in seeking the interest of the youth population.
“We are in prayer with are the honorable man so that he can continue what he has started for the young people,” she said.
