Summary: An image of a house posted by a social media user claiming it to be the newly bought home of LPRC Managing Director Amos Tweh in Ghana. We have conducted a reverse image search on the image and found that the house is not located in Ghana.
On June 12, 2024, Facebook user Foday N. Massaquoi posted an image of a house on his account, alleging that the LPRC Managing Director Amos Tweh had purchased a mansion in Ghana. This post was intended to support Massaquoi’s accusations that Tweh has been misusing taxpayer money.
Claim
Excerpt from the post: “Exposed! LPRC MD and UP SG, Amos Tweh, has bought a US$ 475,000 mansion in Ghana. Where is Amos taking such whopping resources from if not the taxpayers’ money? Should Amos control the petroleum refining before he starts buying these luxurious homes?”
Rating Justification
A close look at the picture shows that the image had been cropped out of the original image.
To fact-check this claim, we performed a reverse image search using a Google tool. The search revealed multiple pictures of similar apartments, leading us to the image of the same building posted by this social media user.
Clicking on the image redirected us to a real estate website in the Philippines. The website named Lamudi listed the house for sale in Talamban, Cebu City – a barangay (neighborhood) in the Philippines. The website also listed the house for sale in Talamban, Cebu City, for 14.5 million Philippines Peso.
When converted using the exchange rate of the Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas (BSP) which is the Central Bank of the Republic of the Philippines, the amount is US$247,225.
Conclusion
Based on the evidence that we have gathered, we conclude that the claim by social media user Foday N. Massaquoi that Amos Tweh has bought a property in Ghana is misleading.
The property in the photo that was posted is in the Philippines and not Ghana as claimed in the Facebook post.
