Monrovia — The Ministry of Health announced on Wednesday that Liberia has made significant progress in the fight against the coronavirus pandemic, disclosing that Montserrado County, which is the epic center, currently has 14 active cases.

Speaking during a special press conference Wednesday at the Ministry of Information in Monrovia, Health Minister Dr. Wilhelmina Jallah said six counties are in countdown stage, which means the number of confirmed cases is fast reducing.
Minister Jallah expressed confidence that if everything remains stable, the remaining counties will shortly be without an active case.
The total number of COVID-19 tests being done so far in Liberia is one hundred forty-six thousand, one hundred and thirty-eight, thus marching the population as compared to the number of tests being done.
Citing the latest data from the National Public Health Institute (NPHIL), Dr. Jallah further disclosed that Liberia is at 94% recovery rate, 5% death rate, and 1% active case.
She, at the same time, informed reporters that Liberia has now been moved from Level Four to Level Three on the United States of America COVID-19 travel alert. This means Liberia has significantly improved in its fight against the pandemic.
Minister Jallah called on people to continue washing their hands and wearing masks while in public place.
Also speaking, Montserrado County Health Officer Dr. Yatta Wahpoe disclosed that the Johnson & Johnson vaccines that recently arrived in the country will be launched Thursday, August 4.
Dr. Wahpoe named the 20 market sites and 40 health facilities as places were the vaccines will be administered right after the launch on Thursday.
On 25th July this year, Liberia received a donation of 302,400 doses of the Johnson and Johnson COVID-19 vaccine from the United States Government through the COVAX facility — a partnership of CEPI, GAVI, UNICEF and WHO. COVAX seeks to expand the COVID-19 vaccination coverage in poor countries like Liberia that are unable to purchase huge quantity of the vaccine.
