Ganta City, Nimba County – People of Gbannah residing in the commercial city of Ganta, Nimba County have launched a development organization known as Gbannah Lehdoo, meaning “there is only one Gbannah “in the Mano Dialect.

Gbannah Clan is located south-east of Ganta about 30 kilometers away along the Ganta-Harper Highway.

Gbannah Lehdoo Organization based in Ganta City was established in 2011 to promote development and seek the welfare of Gbannah Students who may be migrating to the city in pursuit of higher education.

At the launch of the organization, people of the clan and well-wishers in the city paraded through the main street of Ganta to the J.W.Pearson High School where an indoor program was held and the day was climaxed by induction of code of officers and later a fund raising program was held.

Those inducted into offices were Mr. Paul B. Yelegon, president; Mrs. Rena Garteh-Boe, Vice President; Mr. Alphanso Lanon, Organizer; Mr. Chestin S. Polay , General Secretary; Mr. Saye Boe, II, Financial Secretary amongst others.

In his induction speech, Mr. Paul Benyouku Yelegon, president of the organization said launching the organization and the fundraiser was necessary to build a transit point in the city to accommodate students who may wish to attend school in the area but do not have anywhere to stop for short time until they settle down.

He said the building will comprise of conference hall and rooms to lodge strangers but this goal will only succeed when everyone works collaboratively in the process. The cost of the building is estimated at US $15,000.00. The fundraiser generated close to USD $700.00 in cash and pledges and 55 bags of cement.

Mr. Yelegon is therefore calling on well meaning Liberians to contribute to the project to help the students’ population.

He said: “our goal is to see united Gbannah Clan irrespective of political, social or cultural differences. That is while our motto is, ‘RISE FOR DEVELOPMENT’.

Gbannah Lehdoo Organization is a sub-branch of the overall umbrella organization, the Gbannah Development Organization ( GDO ) which serves as the brain behind development for the clan.

Hon. Larry Younquoi, Nimba County Electoral District # 8 Representative who served as guest speaker at the occasion commended the leadership of Gbannah Lehdoo for their far-sightedness for Gbannah Development which is the number one priority for all. In order to immediately commence the project, the District # 8 law maker pledged 50 bags of cement as his initial contribution and wished that the project will start before December this year.

The program which lasted for six hours brought together citizens in and out of Gbannah Clan along with the Lord Mayor of Ganta City, Mayor Benjamin Dokpah and some eminent citizens of Bain-Garr District.

In another development, Ganta City Council has strongly challenged the Ganta Business Community to take advantage of the demolition of make-shift structures and the widening of Ganta Main Street to build modern shelters to give the city a beautiful face.

The council lamented that anyone wishing to build house along the street should rather make it flat top to create room for upstairs apartment buildings.

Meanwhile, those whose buildings were touched or brought down as a result of the road pavement in the city continue to receive cash payments for their properties.
