In Summary
- Yekeh Kolubah, a popular Facebook blog, claimed in a post that the Central Bank of Liberia printed LD$48.6 billion banknotes in February 2021, and that the CBL is now proposing the printing of LD$55 billion during this administration
- We have fact-checked these claims by reviewing President Boakai’s letter to the Legislature, press releases from the Central Bank of Liberia, and news stories published by credible media outlets
- We found one of the two claims to be mostly correct and the other misleading
On April 7, a Facebook blog known as Yekeh Kolubah ( with no connection with the District #10 lawmaker, Representative Yekeh Kolubah), claimed in a Facebook post that the Central Bank of Liberia (CBL) printed L$48.6 billion in banknotes in February 2021 during the government of former President George Weah, while President Joseph Boakai has ordered the CBL to print L$55 billion.
The claim followed President Boakai’s recent communication to the House of Representatives, requesting a special session to address urgent national matters. Among the issues listed was a proposal for the printing of additional Liberian dollar banknotes.
The claim
The blog posted: “On February 10, 2021, Weah & the CBL printed 48.6 billion banknotes. In 2026, Boakai say money finish CBL mon (should) print 55 Billion”.

The post attracted over 1,500 reactions including over 200 comments and 30 shares.
Claim 1: On February 10, 2021, Weah & the CBL printed 48.6 billion banknotes
Rating Justification
To verify the first claim, we reviewed press releases issued by the Central Bank of Liberia, including publications by local news outlets.
We found a November 26, 2021, press release by the Central Bank of Liberia announcing the arrival of the first batch of L$4 billion in new L$100 banknotes. The statement noted that this marked the “beginning of the introduction of a L$48.734 billion new family of Liberia dollar currency, which was approved in May 2021 by the Liberian legislature”.

Claim 2: “In 2026, Boakai says money finished CBL ‘mon’ (should) print 55 Billion.”
Rating Justification
To verify this claim, we reviewed President Boakai’s April 6, 2026, communication sent to us by the House’s Director of Press, Robert Haynes.
According to the communication, President Boakai is proposing the printing of additional Liberian Dollar banknotes. We found that no specific amount was mentioned in the document.

Conclusion
Based on a review of President Boakai’s communication to the House of Representatives, we conclude that the blog’s claim that President Boakai has ordered the CBL to print L$55 billion is misleading. There is no publicly available evidence or official record supporting that figure.
