Misleading: Photos of Minors’ Wedding Ceremony Were Not Taken in Grand Cape Mount County.

Garway’s post, which was made on December 21, 2021, has generated over 80 Facebook comments and was also shared over 100 times across Facebook.

But a reverse image search conducted by LVL Fact Checking Desk with the photo revealed that the two minors in the photo are Sudanese, who according to multiple search results, are 15 and 16 years old.

According to The BBC Ghana, the boy 16 and the girl 15 are both classmates whose wedding took place on December 18, 2021 in Gambella, Ethiopia.

The Face of Malawi also shared the same photos of the minors’ wedding, reporting that they are Buomkuoth Wiyual (boy) and Nyabuay Thiol Biel (girl). The wedding ceremony was graced by both of their parents and religious leaders, the online media reported.

The images of the underaged couple wedding have been trending on several online platforms including blogs like Nigeria’s Gossip 24 that also shared the same photos on December 22, 2021.

Conclusion

Based on the information gathered from different online platforms, the wedding photos of two minors took place in Gambella, Ethiopia and not Grand Cape Mount as claimed in a Facebook post by an account with a username “Jonathan Godsend Garway”. The intent to relate the event to Grand Cape Mount County was apparently meant to misinform social media users.
