No, CDC-COP Is Not a Legitimate Auxiliary of the CDC

Claim

CDC has an auxiliary group name CDC-COP

Local Voices Liberia iVerify team fact-checked this claim and found it be false.

Rating Justification

To reach at this conclusion, we firstly searched the CDC official Facebook page for articles and statements from the ruling party in relation to the claim but did not find any information to substantiate this statement.

We also checked the party’s Chairman, Mulbah Morlu’s official Facebook post and found no evidence of such claim.

We then checked the official Facebook page of Liberia’s Executive Mansion and found a press release dated back to August 1, 2022 where President George Weah distanced the ruling Coaling for Democratic Change from the CDC-COP.

According to President Weah, as a founding father of the Congress for Democratic Change, now the Coalition for Democratic Change, the party does not have any CDC-COP within the organization.

Also, we checked a statement issued by the Chairman of the CDC-COP, Ben Believe Togba Jr., dated back on August 1, 2022, where he stated that the organization is an independent non-violent civil rights political movement that supports the government based on its unwavering love for the country and magnanimous transformation being implemented by the government.

Conclusion

Therefore, based on our research and evidence, we conclude that CDC-COP is not an auxiliary of the ruling Coalition for Democratic Change.
