The World Health Organization (W.H.O) through the Maryland county health team has conducted a one day training workshop for General Community Health Volunteers (GCHVS) in Pleebo sodoken district.
WHO County Coordinator for Maryland Dr. Brian Asmiiwe said 157 GCHs were trained to conduct in-search cases of Ebola and other epidemic diseases in their district and communities.
Dr. Asiimwe added that W.H.O has been working with GCHVs since November 2014 in keeping surveillance in their communities for Ebola and other diseases. He further mentioned that in addition to their work, the GCHVs are to report cases of Measles, Hopping cough, Malaria, Polio among others to the nearest health facilities and clinics in their communities.

According to Dr. Brian Asiimwe the program is expected to end in July 2015. He disclosed that the W.H.O is working with GCHVs in the 15 counties and recruiting other volunteers to work in every districts and communities across the country. The one day training workshop was conducted in the Pleebo City Hall.
Also speaking, the GCHVs commended the W.H.O for the training and expressed their commitment in utilizing the knowledge acquired to create more awareness on Ebola and other related diseases in the various communities in Maryland County.
