Tubmanburg, Bomi County – Wiljatu Haider, the head of a humanitarian organization based in the United States of America (USA), The Wilfoundation, has visited Bomi County and made several donations to the visually impaired community and the Devine Day Care Academy in Tubmanburg.
Madam Wiljatu Haider told Local Voices Liberia that her visit was “to assess the needs of the Devine Day Care Academy in Tubmanburg and to see how her organization can assist them in their education system and to give them more structure in the classes for the kids to learn better.”
She further stated that her visit to Bomi and the school, in particular, was the first, noting that the administration needs to do more to build the education foundation of the children they are teaching.
She said, she does not intend to change their school system, but the school has to do more by engaging the children in active reading, something according to her will help develop the kids.
The Wil Foundation boss added that as a way of helping the Devine Day Care Academy in providing quality education for the students, her organization will provide books to the institution.
“My organization will help the school with books and educational structure in the classrooms.” She added
She commended the teachers and administrative staff for building the capacity of the students attending the institution.
She also praised the students for their excellent performance in her presence, describing them as good.
According to her one of the things that the Wil Foundation will do for the school is to introduce what she called teachers’ support program to help empower the teachers. Madame Hider stressed that teachers need to be educated before they can teach the students.
“One of the things we going to do is to do the teacher support program because the teachers need to be educated before they teach the students,” she said.
Items donated include reading books and used clothes.
Speaking on behalf of the school administration, the vice principal for instruction Augustus Marwolo lauded the effort of the Wil Foundation and promised to work with her to meet their goals.
In a related development, the Wil Foundation has also donated six bags of 25kg rice and used clothes to the visually impaired community in Tubmanburg. Presenting the items to the group, Madam Wiljatu Haider said it was her own way of identifying with them.
She said: “I have come here today to identify with you by giving you these few bags of rice and used clothes. I want you to know that all is not lost and we will be there for you.”
Wiljatu placed the cost of the materials donated at One Thousand United States Dollars.
Receiving the materials on behalf of the group, the secretary of the Blind Association Mr. Sumo Jallah said: “Madam, I want to say thank you to you and your group for this good work by identifying with us and we want to ask others as well to follow your example by helping the blind people in this county, thank you.”
The Wil Foundation came into existence on the basis of helping to reduce the illiteracy rate in basic reading and writing for kids in Liberia.
The mission is to provide various educational materials and chlorine for water wells for safe drinking water in Liberia.
